Dark Dark Roath Park

Dark Dark Roath Park

I ran past some otherwise ordinary benches but on this occasion they were a bit harrowing as, in the absence of social distraction, I noticed that each bench was dedicated to someone who has passed away. When its raining and there’s no life in the park, the more they resonate tombstones rather than a resting place for people like Forrest Gump, OAPs, ASBO’s, and the likes. Wierd.

  1. “weird”

  2. I have never understood why people put this plaques in such places. Is it to prove that a loved one died, and allude to the fact that one has lost a loved one inflicting an internalised pain?

Surely there are better more private options. Like a wax work representation sat at their favourite chair in the house, Madame Tussauds style.

  3. Having recently lost someone close to me, I can fully understand the reasoning behind these plaques. The person I’m thinking of was very fond of the park and spent many happy hours there. I’m currently looking into sponsoring a bench there, as I know she’d like the idea of people sitting and enjoying the same place. Why should I opt for a ‘better more private option’ when this is what I want to do? If it bothers danban so much, he/she doesn’t have to look at it.
